Mabruk Oil Operations is one of the oil companies
operating on behalf of NOC (National
Oil Corporation ) & Total E&P.
Mabruk Oil Operations activities are based on the model of an
operating company with core business activities focused in
oil / gas fields’ development and production; this is widely
practiced in Libya.
Mabruk Oil Operations is a non profit company and does not
have an aptitude for making any. It has a task in providing
a service for the development, operation and production of
commercially declared and explored assets on behalf of all
partners (NOC, TOTAL, WINTERSHALL and HYDRONORSK).
Mabruk Oil Operations employees around 333 employees in 2008 of
which 89 are expatriates, 282 are locals. They are distributed among its 3
main operational sites (see below) and its main offices
located at Dhat El Imad Complex in Tripoli.
Mabruk Oil Operations operates 2 main oil fields (onshore &
offshore) and posses the following sites:
• Mabruk Field: is an onshore field located about 170
kilometers to the south of Sirt town (Middle Eastern Libya –
see location map). It was discovered in 1959 by LIAMCO
(Libyan American Company), but was never developed due to
the adverse characteristics of its carbonated reservoirs.
The development of the Mabruk oil field started in 1994 and
has required the setup of innovative technologies to bring
about a successful economic production from a tight and
complex oil field (horizontal and multilateral drain
drilling technology).
Average field production in 2006 is around 17,000 barrels of
oil per day. In the coming years, the development project of
Mabruk Phase 4 will allow this production to double in
quantity, considering East/Central Mabruk, Dahra and Garian
reservoirs development.
The development of this onshore field is ruled and governed
by a DPSA agreement signed & ratified on 20/03/1993 between
NOC, TOTAL and SAGA Petroleum.
• AL Jurf Field: is an offshore field situated close to the
Tunisian border, 100 km off the coast and 150 km from
Tripoli (see location map). The phase one development of the
Al Jurf oil field is in final stages with the last wells
being drilled.
From a fixed drilling & production platform (BD1) set at 87
meters of water depth linked to a Floating, Production,
Storage & Offloading unit (FPSO) set in 83 meters of water
depth via 10” sea- line of about 3 kilometers distance.
First oil production was achieved on September 05th, 2003.
Production has reached the maximum capacity of 40,000 BOPD
in less than a year from production start.
Pre-development studies for phase 2 development are
currently ongoing with an objective to stop gas flaring,
re-inject associated produced gas into the reservoir’s gas
cap and increase production facilities capacity to 50, 000
BOPD.
The development of this offshore field is ruled and governed
by an amended EPSA74 agreement signed & ratified on
12/04/1996 between NOC, ELF AQUITAINE (now TOTAL) and
WINTERSHALL.
• Zarzis Marine Base: is an onshore marine logistical
support base located across the border (in Tunisia). It is
about 100 kilometers away from Al Jurf field. The base contains most of Mabruk Oil
Operation's storage space,
facilities, material & equipment.
The base operates to support the drilling, construction and
production operations in AL Jurf field, also to support
other exploration & drilling activities in the same
concession which are carried out by TEP Libye.
The base also coordinate and provide most of the drilling
and operations equipment handling, providing and supplying
boats services, loading of bulk materials and chemicals and
offloading back cargos, including waste management.
Future plans call for the demobilization of such base
support activities from Zarzis in Tunisia to Mellitah base
in Libya incoordination and in joint venture with ENI Gas.
B.V. (2008/2009).
As per the 26 of September former company name (CPTL) has
changed by NOC and TOTAL decision to Mabruk oil operations
all the operations and actions remains the same.
